The rugged north Cornish coastline boasts beautiful scenery throughout the year, and is a destination loved by many humans and their dogs. From strolling the South West Coast Path, to running around on the sandy beaches, it’s easy to work up an appetite. Luckily, there are plenty of relaxed, dog-friendly places to head to for food and to quench your thirst. Here are some of the many great Cornish pubs and restaurants nearby which will welcome your dog all year round.
Just over a five-minute walk from Highcliffe, you’ll find the recently refurbished Oystercatcher. With a new glass extension to make the most of the views out to sea towards Pentire Point, this pub and restaurant in Polzeath is definitely worth a visit. It welcomes dogs to dine with their owners in the bar area and outside terrace, so you can all relax after a long walk on the South West Coast Path.
Well known for its Sunday roast, this pub and restaurant in St Minver is just a five-minute drive from us. The owners are dog lovers, and they have a great little beer garden at the front where your four-legged friends can bask in the sun while you enjoy your meal.
Working with Sharp’s brewery, local celebrity chef Paul Ainsworth relaunched this pub in Rock in 2019. Serving an all-day menu of fantastic modern British classics, our main recommendation is to make sure you leave room for pudding ‘with custard’. Dogs are allowed throughout the ground floor, and is a great place to stop after a walk on Rock or Porthilly beaches.
With water bowls right by the front door of this Rock pub, you instantly get the sense of how dog-friendly it is. Dogs are welcome in the bar and restaurant, as well as on the terrace which has fantastic views over the Camel Estuary and Padstow harbour. This is a real social hub during the summer season, so make sure your furry friends are safely tucked under the table to protect their paws.
Head over to Padstow on the ferry from Rock, and you’ll find this wonderful pub on the far side of the harbour. It’s extremely family and dog-friendly, and serves something for every occasion. From coffee and cake in the conservatory, to all-day brunch, a classic bar menu, and even an oyster bar and grill, it’s the perfect place to take the whole family to eat in Padstow, including the dog.
Tucked away in the heart of Padstow just off the harbour, this is a great pub to sit outside with your dog and watch people walking by in the street. Open all year round, you can pop in here after a dog walk up to Padstow War Memorial to warm up in the bar with a drink, or two.
Overlooking Port Isaac harbour and out to sea, this traditional village pub serves hearty food, and has roaring fires during the colder months - perfect for your dog to curl up in front of after paddling around in the water on Port Isaac beach.
This traditional Cornish country pub is just over a 15-minute drive from Highcliffe, and is definitely worth a visit. It’s a bit of a hidden treasure. Away from the busy coastal scene, the beer garden is a tranquil escape where you can listen to the birds while you tuck into your food. But don’t worry, if the sun isn’t shining then dogs are also welcome in the bar.
Let your dog enjoy a holiday to Cornwall as much as you will with some time on these nearby dog-friendly beaches.
